HIGH ROCKS ACADEMY
HIGH ROCKS IS A PLACE WHERE YOUNG WOMEN ARE ENCOURAGED TO STEP UP AS LEADERS EVERY DAY.
From navigating a group through the wilderness to standing up for the rights of students at their school, High Rocks girls are making their voices heard, both out there in the world and here on the mountainside at the High Rocks.
Staff work with the girls in many contexts, including: tutoring, group service projects, special trips, college preparation, college-level classes and summer camps. In these different contexts, staff often occupy the role of “facilitator.” The girls are the ones who lead and labor, make decisions in a democratic fashion and support one another to take academic risks and accept growth-inspiring challenges. High Rocks values a true exchange of ideas, where all voices are equally valued and appreciated.
THE HUB’S MISSION IS TO UNLOCK THE CULTURAL WEALTH AVAILABLE IN DOWNTOWN LEWISBURG FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE GREENBRIER VALLEY.
The Hub is a centrally located, safe, inclusive and fun student café for middle and high school age students in Greenbrier County. The Hub offers workshops, classes, activities, homework help and more. It’s also a space where students have access to protected Wi-Fi, a computer lab, media equipment, art supplies, board games, pool, ping pong, foosball, musical instruments, and popcorn for free.
By being in a centralized location with access to and from The Hub (provided by a partnership with the Eastern side of Greenbrier County’s school bus system), students can also walk to other afterschool programs and organizations such as Greenbrier Valley Theater, Trillium Performing Arts, CountryRoads Cross Fit, or Carnegie Hall. All students need is a note to ride bus #1158, stopping at the old Fort Savannah. Students are also able to catch the activity bus from The Hub at approximately 6pm to central stops in White Sulphur Springs, Caldwell, Alderson, Ronceverte, Fort Springs, Frankford, Williamsburg, and Clintonville.
