The monthly concert and dance at the old Time Out building behind the old Greenville High School is hosted by the Greenville Council on Aging. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted and help to restore the old high school building and host future events. The event is a pot-luck – please consider bringing a covered dish to share.
Loretta Cox –  helped to start the band in 2005 and has been the sound person ever since. Not only does she run sound for Valley Bluegrass Band, she has also run sound for several other events around the area, Ralph Stanley II, Tazewell Bluegrass Festival for the Lions Club in Tazewell, Va., The Kristen Hamm Foundation Fund Raiser at Camp Creek State Park, also at the Camp Creek state Park Fall Festival ( pig roast) sponsored by AHMA, The Pocahontas Bluegrass Festival, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park ( Cass Community Center ) and Appalachian Highlands Music Association monthly shows. Other than the talent of running sound she also has the talent of the bands recordings for CD’s, photo advertising and the Bands web site. She is a great asset to the band.
Larry Cox – Started the band in 2005 . plays guitar and does most of the lead vocals, he also does the emceeing for the band. Although through the years he has played several different instruments he now just plays the guitar. Larry comes from a musical family background and he has been playing for about forty – nine years and performs a large number of songs from gospel, country and bluegrass. Larry loves the traditional style of bluegrass and the harmony associated with the music. Larry played bass for the West Virginia Bluegrass Connection band in the 1990’s. Larry and Eddie also played in the same band for about six years in the 1980’s. One of Larry’s best assets are to keep the shows different from show to show and always working on new songs for the band to perform. Larry has penned several of the songs that the band performs and is working on an all original CD.
Eddie Cales – Has been playing music for about 60 years. Eddie plays dobro in the band and is considered to be one of the best traditional style dobro players in the US. Eddie and Larry have been friends for about 35 years and have played a lot of music together. Josh Graves commented on Eddie’s dobro playing as the best that he has ever heard. Eddie has played for several bands through the years and spent some time with the West Virginia Bluegrass Connection Band in the 1990’s. Eddie has recorded two CD’s of some of the best dobro music that has ever been played.
Tommy Crigger – Has been playing music for about 43 years, and is considered to be one of the best bass players around. Tommy played for Clayton Hale and The Bluegrass Mountaineers for 8 years. They traveled all over the Eastern US and played on the Opry. Tommy also has played on the Early Bird Bluegrass show as a guest of Bill Monroe. Through the years he has played a lot of gospel music and for about 4 years had a Southern Gospel band called on Mended Wings with his wife Barbara. Tommy not only does an excellent job playing bass in the band he also does some backup vocals on several of the songs that the band performs.
Tim York – Has been playing banjo for about 30 years and is an excellent hard driving banjo picker. Tim also sings back-up vocal and some lead vocal as a bonus with Tim he is also a great guitar picker which allows the band to switch around on instruments from time to time.
Valley Bluegrass is a band of many musical abilities from Traditional Bluegrass to Flat Footing, Two stepping, Waltzing and Country Music.
