Juanita Fireball & the Continental Drifters debuted at the Pocahontas County Opera House in 2008, although they have been making music together in one form or another for twenty-five years. They play Appalachian string band tunes, many of which they learned years ago from old-timers in West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. They sing songs about animals, outlaws, fruit and love, with a few gospel numbers for balance. The high energy of their hard-driving music will have you dancing in the aisles.
The band consists of Mike Burns and Jay Lockman on twin fiddles, Mary Sue Burns on clawhammer banjo, Wayne Walton on the doghouse bass, and John Sparks and Terry Richardson on guitar.
The band has performed at the Pocahontas Opera House, The Vandalia Gathering in Charleston, WV and the Appalachian Heritage Festival in Shepherdstown, WV. They’ve played their foot-stompin’ music at local festivals including Marlinton Pioneer Days, Little Levels Heritage Festival, and Huntersville Tradition Days. You can also hear them at Mountain Dance Trail square dances in Dunmore and Marlinton. Another favorite venue is Mountain Music Trail partner, the Brazenhead Inn.
